LOGICAL & PHYSICAL DATA RECOVERY

Data recovery is the process of retrieving data from damaged, failed, corrupted, or inaccessible hard disks, thumb drives, or any type of media when it cannot be accessed by normal means.
Recovery may be required due to physical damage to the storage device or logical damage to the file system that prevents it from being recognized by the host.

SYMPTOMS OR SIGNS OF MEDIA FAILURE:

  • Raid Arrays, Hard drives, Flash drives or Camera Cards won´t boot up
  • Damaged or burnt logic board
  • Bad spindle motor (platter does not spin)
  • Grinding, Squealing or Clicking sounds
  • "Disk error", "No operating system found", "Drive not found"
  • Formatted hard drive
  • Accidental file deletion
  • Broken Flash Drives or Camera Cards

LOGICAL DATA RECOVERY

Logical failure occurs when the basic file system is corrupted. An example would be when a virus attacks or you lose a partition. The media is still mechanically intact but you can no longer access the data. Using standard software utilities to attempt self-recovery could render your data unrecoverable. Most standard software utilities are good for preventive maintenance but could cause irreparable damage when there are already logical problems.
Some times a combination of several data recovery procedures are needed to get your data back.

Some tasks that we do to recover your data from logical failure are:

  • Master Boot Record Repair
  • Virus detection and cleaning
  • Core System Programs restoration
  • Bad sector repair
  • Overcome CRC and ECC errorsand
  • more...

PHYSICAL DATA RECOVERY

A wide variety of failures can cause physical damage to storage media. CD-ROMs can have their metallic substrate or dye layer scratched off; hard disks can suffer any of several mechanical failures such as head crashes and failed motors; tapes can simply break. Physical damage always causes at least some data loss, and in many cases the logical structures of file systems are damaged as well.
Most physical damage cannot be repaired by end users. For example, opening a hard disk in a normal environment can allow airborne particles to settle on the platter and become caught between the platter and the read/write head(s). This can cause new head crashes that further damage the platter and thus compromise the recovery process. Furthermore, end users generally do not have the hardware or technical expertise required to make these repairs.

Ximatic - Data Recovery Services recognizes three levels of physical failure in storage media like hard disks, thumb drives and camera cards. These are: Firmware, Electrical and Mechanical.

Firmware Failure: In simple words, this refers to special programs that come with the hard drive inside of the microprocessor or in a separate chip (ROM) to make the hard drive become a hard drive. It is a specialized type of software that controls the reading and writing to and from the platter(s) in a hard disk or thumb drive or camera card.

Ximatic - Data Recovery Service has the specials tools and instruments to deal with this type of failure. We can repair adaptive, translator, and other modules to make your media temporarily work enough to recover your data.

Electrical Failure: Basically, this refers to damage on the logic board or printed circuit board (PCB) of a storage device, which holds the majority of electronic components. Some electronics are located on the head assembly inside of hard disks.

Ximatic - Data Recovery Service can deal with burned components, current out of range, burned traces, and with complex troubleshooting of the logic board to determine what area has problems. It can be the power area, spindle motor and voice coil motor area, read channel area, or the microprocessor area. Our many years of experience and knowledge allow us to perform a very accurate diagnosis of your media and choose the right procedure to use.

Mechanical Failure: This is when your media has problem like a stuck spindle motor, bad read/write heads, etc. In other words, actual moving parts of the drive have failed to function properly. With these types of failures it necessary to open the hard disk to do the repair.

Ximatic - Data Recovery Service will perform special procedures in a clean environment to repair mechanical failures. In these cases the hard disk needs to be opened to replace the head assembly or transplant platters due to a spindle motor that doesn’t turn. These are the most complex repairs to make but we have the knowledge, technology, and the ability to get the job done!

Some tasks that we do to recover your data from physical failure are:

  • Electronic component replacement
  • Rebuild burn traces
  • Spindle motor and Voice Coil Motor repair
  • Platter Trasplant ( from "one" to "n" platters)
  • Head assembly replacement
  • Hex code repair (modules such as; translator, adaptives, etc.)

When you come in or send us your drive, we will immediately perform a free diagnoses, explain the problem to you and give you an accurate price quote. We have a certified, class 100 clean room and all work is perform locally, in house by Electrical, Mechanical or IT engineers! with over 40 years combined experience in Data Recovery, you can count on Ximatic to get the job done! And if your data is unrecoverable, you pay nothing!
